Site Investigation and Assessment
Back

STATS is one of the UK’s leading integrated geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation specialists. We provide consultancy-lead investigation, site characterisation and assessment services for all types of building, infrastructure and other civil engineering projects. Once on site our engineers, geologists and environmental scientists are trained to compare the emerging findings of a ground investigation with the preliminary ground model determined from the desk study and respond appropriately to any unexpected conditions, by for instance contacting the client with a recommended adjustment to the investigation. We have our own capability and resources to undertake:

Preliminary site appraisal:

  • Desk studies, site reconnaissance, thematic field mapping and feasibility appraisal
  • Geophysical surveys including ground penetrating radar (GPR) and buried services surveys
  • Scoping, design and specification of ground investigations

Intrusive ground investigation:

  • Exploratory holes including trial pitting and trenching, hand-held and mechanical drive-in window sampling, cable percussive (‘shell & auger’) and rotary drilled boreholes
  • Sampling and in situ testing including U100 and piston sampling, SPTs, in situ vane testing, static and dynamic cone penetrometer probes, plate loading tests, in situ density and CBR testing
  • Permeability and water infiltration testing, including packer testing, well and borehole soakaway testing and BRE 365 infiltration rate testing for soakaway design
  • Geotechnical and geoenvironmental instrumentation and monitoring
  • Down-hole and cross-hole geophysics
  • UKAS accredited geotechnical and contamination laboratory testing

Data handing, interpretation and reporting:

STATS Limited is certified by DNV to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 for Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Management, accredited by CHAS and holds registrations with Constructionline, Link-up & UVDB.
