Busy time for STATS at the Thames Gateway Forum

Experts from a broad range of disciplines were available on the STATS stand at this year’s Thames Gateway Forum, at the ExCel London.

It was STATS’ first attendance at the event since becoming a member of the RSK Group, the UK’s largest privately owned multi-disciplinary environmental, health, safety and engineering consultancy, in January 2008. Representatives from both STATS and RSK Group were able to help and advise visitors on a range of issues affecting the successful delivery of the £9bn Thames Gateway development, such as land remediation, site investigation and environmental impact assessments.

STATS Chairman Adrian Marsh said: “Once again this was an extremely worthwhile event for STATS; we were particularly pleased to receive a number of new leads from the public sector. The ‘expert advice’ sessions that were held on the stand, including a Ground Penetrating Radar demonstration, also proved very popular.”

Peter Witherington, Deputy Chairman of the RSK Group and one of the UK’s leading experts on contaminated land remediation, gave a presentation at the event's Conference entitled 'Contaminated Land - finding a way forward?'
The Thames Gateway has an abundance of contaminated land, but Peter questioned whether government advice to local authorities and developers was becoming any clearer about the way to tackle the issue. This placed greater reliance on the expertise of environmental consultants to devise both safe and cost-effective solutions.
