Noise Action Week
By expanding from a day to a week, we are giving participants greater flexibility in when and where they get involved. Why do we need Noise Action Week? Noise can effect the quality of life of everyone. Promoting a responsible attitude towards noise and raising awareness of the social impacts of noise is essential in building sustainable communities. However, the most frequently complained about noises are neighbour noises, which are often a result of thoughtlessness or anti social behaviour. Individuals must also bear responsibility for the noise they make in their own community and its impacts on others. Research by NSCA and Defra funded research shows that proactive education on noise is fundamental in tackling neighbour noise problems. Noise Action Week aims to provide a focus for noise education and the promotion of noise management services, and to provide the impetus for this work to continue throughout the year. What is happening for Noise Action Week 2005? Local authorities, housing organisations, mediation services, schools and others are being encouraged to co-ordination events to educate and inform people about noise, the impact it has and how to reduce it. NSCA provides materials for local and regional co-ordinators. These include a ‘How to’ guide with ideas and case studies, an Information Pack of available resources, stationery and other promotional materials. A dedicated website http://www.noiseactionweek.org.uk will be online in February. The ‘How to’ guide and information pack will be dispatched by early March. Promotional materials will be dispatched in April. |
